Attic black-figure lekythos with a symposium scene showing Dionysos and his wife Ariadne. The couple is reclining on cushions with their crowned heads turned to the right. Branches with leaves in the field. Cylinder shape lekythos tapering below the figured decoration to a simple disk foot. Dots and rays on the shoulder with a line at the junction of the shoulder. The black glaze below the figures is interrupted by a couple of narrow reserved bands. For related examples, cf. Beazley Archive no. 9023252 in: CVA Marathon, Marathon Museum, 33-34, 79, pl. Ceramic. H. 6.9 inches. Fine preservation with some wear. Applied white and red color faded; a turquoise tint in places. A tiny chip out of the calyx-shaped mouth restored. Provenance: From an old Munich collection, acquired ca. 50 years before.
